Google TV Sets Unveiled by Sony


The one of leading manufacturer Sony has unveiled the first televisions set with built-in Google TV. Retail prices will start from $599 for the 24” model, ranging to $1,399 for the 46” model. Version in 32” and 40” are also currently available for pre-order, with the range billed as “the world’s first HDTV powered by Google TV”.

According to details by Sony, the first televisions that will include Google TV will launch this autumn in America, do not yet have a European release date. Sony unveiled this TV at a press event in New York City. Google TV itself was unveiled at Google’s I/O conference earlier this year.

The range includes screen sizes between 24 and 46 inches and accesses content via broadcast as well as the internet and applications. They also unveiled a Blu-ray player with Google TV functionality. The new Google TV models feature 1080p edge-lit LED screens in all cases except the 24-inch model. They all feature four USB ports, four HDMI inputs and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Internet TV software also brings Hulu, Twitter, Netflix, YouTube and Pandora direct to the television. Web surfing is powered by Google Chrome, while apps are powered by the Android operating system.

According to Sony, “Google TV delivers a new experience by bringing the TV and internet together. The plan details for Windows 8 has leaked and according to leaked documents, facial recognition and tablet computers apparently a part of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8. Leaked documents detailing Microsoft’s initial thoughts on the development of Windows 8 have surfaced on the internet. Microsoft is paying attention to Apple while planning Windows 8. The prototype look like just as apple's. Microsoft alao focusing on energy efficiency areas on Windows 8.

Other key features included a focus on improving start-up times, which have previously been cited by consumer groups as a cause of frustration, as well as an easy way to reset PCs to their default settings without deleting users’ information. The PowerPoint presentation, apparently aimed at an HP executive and dated April 2010, suggested that facial recognition for log in and compatibility with a range of new computers and tablets could be a key part of the forthcoming product. Now, it looks like that focus is back for Help and Support on Windows 8 and the aim is to help user. The forthcoming Internet Explorer 9 is also mention as integral to the new ideas. Microsoft appears to be planning functionality for a reset button that will essentially reinstall Windows while maintaining all of your personal files, applications, settings, etc. without the need for the user to back all of that stuff up. A scenario is presented in one of these slides to demonstrate how it would work.

Japanese scientists have developed a system that would allow you recharge your mobile phones and laptops wirelessly. Developed by Japanese technology firm Fujitsu, the system is capable of simultaneously charging multiple portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for cable connections.

The company unveiled a prototype system at an Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers conference at Osaka Prefecture University and it claimed that it was first of its kind in the world. It works on the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger and the electronic device. The technology allows wireless charging at distances of up to several metres. Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories plan to commercially sell products having wireless charging system by 2012.

According to company, "This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position with respect to the charger. We are also looking at applying the results of this work to fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between circuit boards or computer chips, and providing mobile charging systems for electric cars."

World’s Fastest CPU at 5.2GHz by IBM



The New zEnterprise 196 is world's fastest, most powerful microprocessors running at 5.2Ghz, capable of executing more than 50 billion instructions per second. This new IBM microprocessor technology has new software to optimize performance of data-heavy workloads, including up to a 60% improvement in data intensive and Java workloads.
The quad-core z196 runs at an astonishing 5.2GHz, taking the title from IBM's own 4.7GHz Power6 CPU. The new chip contains 1.4 billion transistors - 300 million more than Intel's six-core desktop CPUs - on a 512mm2 package made using a 45nm manufacturing-process.

Each core has been given 1.5MB private L2 cache as well as access to 24MB shared L3 eDRAM cache. Somewhat uniquely, the z196 also has access to a fourth layer of cache off-chip. Six of these CPUs can be installed into a multi-chip module (MCM) and will connect to each other through two controllers with a total of 192MB shared L4 cache via a 40GB per second link. Apparently the processors are so fast that this extra level of memory is necessary to ensure that they are constantly fed with data.

Another relatively unusual feature is the use of the CISC-based z/Architecture, as opposed to a more common RISC ISA. CISC has largely been superseded by RISC, but is still useful for certain operations that require very large amounts of memory to properly run.

A water cooling option is also available for the z196 that can reduce energy use by up to 12%.(9) In a normal data center environment, water cooling reduces the required system air flow by more than 20%, while removing more than 70% of the system air heat load.

The z196 will find its way into IBM's Z-series mainframes and should start shipping at some point in September. Intel and AMD fighting for the fastest CPU crown, but IBM beat them and make a record for the CPU with the highest clock-speed.

Google TV now gets its own home page which show you details about all its features and services. As you know that Google TV is now very close to launch and may be announced by Sony on 12 Oct 2010. In the meantime, Google TV's official website went live giving users and developers a chance to get acquainted with the product. You can visit Google TV homepage here. The site runs down through Google TV's biggest features and attractions list and highlights the advantages of having access to the entire web on your TV. The Quick Tour does a good job at introducing the platform to newcomers.

15 Percent of US Teens Engage in 'Sexting


An estimated 15 percent of American teenagers have received nude or sexually suggestive photographs on their cell phones, according to a study Wednesday by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. The study about the tech-fueled trend called "sexting" said that boys are as likely as girls to send "sexts," while teens who pay for their own cell phone bills are more likely to text salacious shots.

The study of 800 teens found that just 4 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds admitting to sexting photos or videos of themselves. About 8 percent of 17-year-olds sent sexts and 30 percent received them, the report found.

Teenage sexting usually is done as part of a relationship or would-be relationship between teens, the Pew focus groups found. However, those messages are often forwarded to people outside the relationship, especially after a breakup.

"It doesn't take that many people creating these images for a lot of people to see them," said Amanda Lenhart, a senior research specialist at the Pew project and author of the report.

But researchers said the study still indicates sexting, which could lead to other problems such as cyber bullying, has become part of the fabric of modern teenage life. About 75 percent of US teenagers have cell phones and 66 percent of them send text messages, Pew said.

"Kids have experience with it," said Lenhart. "It's something they have to deal with and talk about in their lives." Originally posted on this page.
